Broken cheekbone
It was a normal day, I went to work and Zaynah went to school. My Aunty Yvonne and Aunty Pauline were visiting from Barbados and staying at my grandads house. The plan was after the school run me and Zaynah would go and have dinner with them, my mom was cooking and Zay had requested fried chicken.
We decided to go home first and get changed out of school and work clothes. I was feeling a little tired which in turn usually makes me more wobbly than usual but I wasn't feeling at risk of falling. How wrong was I.
We had been home for about 10 mins and I was sorting out clothes for Zaynah to change into when I must have turned around to quickly, causing me to lose my balance and fall hitting my face on my bedside table.
This was the first time I had fallen in a long time especially while I had been with Zaynah so it was scary. I reassured Zaynah and went to check my face but my cheek had swollen up and blood was coming from a cut just under my eye. I tried really hard to not burst into tears when I saw my face but when you have a 7 year old looking up at you with worry and fear it was too hard to hold it in.
I just didn't know what to do. All I was thinking about was I've ruined our dinner plans and my mom wasn't here. However Zaynah knew exactly what to do and she took charge. She sat me down on the bed and helped me clean my face, which , by now was a disgusting mixture of tears and blood running down my face onto my clothes. She then took my phone and called my mom, told her what had happened and got her to come home. While we waited for my mom to get home she phoned the doctors to get some medical advise. The receptionist was a little shocked to get a call from Zaynah but she said we couldn't see a doctor today and it would be best if we sought attention from a hospital.
By now my mom was home but against the advise I decided not to go to hospital, mainly because the swelling needed to go down before they could do anything and the thought of possibly waiting hours to be seen filled me with dread. Also I triaged myself and concluded my that since I had no neck or head pain, whiplash was probably not a concern and yes that was my opinion as a Google doctor.

The other worry was we had a holiday to Lanzarote booked for June and I just hoped it would be healed by then but even though the swelling had gone down it was still very painful and my doctor advised I should go to hospital for an x-ray. The result wasn't what I expected, it showed the I had fractured my cheekbone. Even though I had a break the doctor at the hospital explained it wasn't bad enough to require any medical intervention and will just heal by itself. This also meant flying would be ok so our holiday was still on.
