Workplace injury

It was another rainy day in Birmingham and I was trying to get into work without looking like a drowned rat. So off I popped to West Bromwich my balance wasn't 100% but it was manageable and I could still easily do the journey on the bus and Tram. When I arrived I was soaked through so after logging in at my desk and getting ready for my day, I realised it might be a good idea to check how much damage the weather had wreaked on my hair and my trousers. Than, BANG, the next thing I knew I was on the floor and had wacked my face on the wall opposite my desk. It seemed on the floor there was a strip of flooring where the carpet had been removed and I had slipped forward. It was almost like an out of body experience or happening in slow motion but I didn't have time to brace myself. Even the gasps from my colleagues as they rushed to help me seemed to be for someone else.

I had a swollen eye and was taken home by Des, the first aider as I was in no position to get public transport. Over the next few days it got gradually worse and by the weekend it was swollen shut.

I went to the hospital twice over the following weeks as it was really painful and I was getting a sharp stabbing pain, they diagnosed me with Uveitis (inflammation inside the eye) due to trauma.

I made a claim for compensation not really for the money (even though that helped) but I felt that nothing was really done about it. My desk wasn't the legal distance from the wall and the floor was not replaced.  The worse thing was probably wall still had the smudge in blood from where my face had collided and nobody had thought to get it cleaned up.  So all day everyday I had to look at it as a constant painful reminder.  The other thing that really annoyed me was because it was a workplace accident, I expected the health and safety manager to probably sit down with me to discuss the incident or enquire after my health but it never happened.
